According to the Law advertising of nonprescription medicines is only allowed as well as advertising of preparations not included in the list of medicines prohibited for advertising.

Law №4196-VI "About alteration of some laws of Ukraine in healthcare concerning strengthen control over turnover of drugs, foods for special diet, functional foods and dietary supplements" was signed by the President of Ukraine Viktor Yanukovych on January 10, 2012. According to the Law advertising of nonprescription medicines is only allowed as well as advertising of preparations not included in the list of medicines prohibited for advertising. This document will be approved by the Ministry of Health according to the criteria developed. The decision to include the preparation in the list is made during registration (re-registration) of drugs.

Also, the Law prohibits to declare in promotional materials that foods for special diet, functional foods and dietary supplements have medicinal properties.

Provisions of the Law concerning the prohibition on advertising of medicines, take effect in 6 months after the Law comes into effect.

Advertising of medicines registered in Ukraine before the coming into force of prohibition can be implemented only after the appropriate changes in the National Register of Drugs in Ukraine.
